Playboi Carti
Playboi Carti is an influential American rapper known for pioneering an experimental style that blends hip hop, trap, cloud rap and hyperpop. Born Jordan Terrell Carter in 1996, he hails from Riverdale, Georgia and broke out in 2015 with his debut mixtape Playboi Carti. Carti built a cult following with his infectiously catchy melodies, heavy use of autotune and absurdist lyrics. He has been compared stylistically to rappers like Lil Uzi Vert and Young Thug.
After his mixtape’s success, the Atlanta-based Carti continued gaining traction. He has since released two hit albums, Die Lit (2018) and Whole Lotta Red (2020), spawning viral sensations like “Magnolia.” Known for his unique sound and high-fashion image, Carti has cemented his status as a leading voice in alternative hip hop. At just 25, the rapper has already collaborated with Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert and Kanye West. With his crossover appeal, Carti is poised to remain impactful in bending the rules of experimental rap.
