Blanket of Stars Lyrics by Craig Morgan
Lookin’ up at a diamond sky
Catchin’ all the tears from my little boy’s eyes
Sayin’, “Daddy’s gotta go away”
Son, I hope you understand someday
Suitin’ up, answerin’ the call
Standin’ on the frontlines, fightin’ for us all
But every step along the way
I’ll be picturin’ your sweet face
And every night, when you’re starin’ out at the man in the moon
You know that I’ll be out here lookin’ too
And I’m always here with you
‘Cause under this blanket of stars
Nothin’ can keep us apart
Whenever you’re standin’ in the dark
I’ll always be here inside your heart
I can be the calm in the storm
Be the sunlight to keep you warm
No matter where you are
I’m never, ever too far
Under this blanket of stars
The desert’s lonely in this foreign land
It feels like a million years have passed
Losin’ brothers all along the way
A trail of tears, scars, and bloodstains
The crash of bullets and the swarmin’ sands
My soul is weary, I can barely stand
But I look up at the Milky Way
And I know that I will be okay
‘Cause every night when I’m starin’ out at the man in the moon
Son, I know you’re out there lookin’ too
It’s like I’m right there next to you
Under this blanket of stars
Nothin’ can keep us apart
Whenever I’m standin’ in the dark
You’ll always be here inside my heart
You can be the calm in the storm
Be the sunlight to keep me warm
‘Cause no matter where you are
You’re never, ever too far
Under this blanket of stars
(Blanket of stars)
Lyin’ here, takin’ my final breath
Seein’ visions of a life that I’ll never have
Tears fallin’ from my eyes
Wish I could hold you one last time
When you hear that twenty-one-gun salute
And they cover me in the red, white, and blue
Know what’s underneath those stripes and stars
Will always be in your heart
‘Cause under that blanket of stars
Nothin’ can keep us apart
Whenever you’re standin’ in the dark
I’ll always be here inside your heart
I can be the calm in the storm
Be the sunlight to keep you warm
‘Cause no matter where you are
I’m never, ever too far
Under this blanket of stars (Blanket of stars)
Under this blanket of stars
