The choice of “Don Juan” as the album’s title references both the infamous literary character and Maluma‘s birth name, Juan Luis Londoño Arias. It reflects the diverse sounds and mature songwriting on the album. Maluma described “Don Juan” as his most personal work yet, saying it combines his musical roots in reggaeton with a more expansive, genre-bending approach.
One standout track is “Según Quién,” a pop-norteño fusion song featuring Mexican musician Carín León. The collaboration mirrors Maluma’s interest in bringing regional Mexican music to the global Latin music landscape. The album also contains salsa track “La Fórmula” with Marc Anthony and a reggaeton/house song “Diablo, Qué Chimba” made with Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA. Despite past perceived rivalry, Maluma said working with Anuel AA revealed his “big heart.”
